7 Tips to Keep your Feet from Infection

The feet does a lot for the body. It is a major source of locomotion for man, they bear the weight of the body as well as stand on them for long periods of time.

This blog post aims to teach you how to protect your feet from infection this season.

  • Avoid wearing tight-fitting shoes. Cramming your feet into tight shoes do more harm than good. If you have outgrown your shoes or they aren’t comfortable any longer, change them for a new pair of TFA shoes.

  • Avoid wearing the same pair of shoes every day. Rotation of shoes is good for the feet. As germs and dirt may be present in a huge concentration. Shoes worn during the day should be aired and/or sun dried.  

  • Carry out daily examination of your feet for cuts, sores, swellings and infected toe nails. If these are discovered on time, they should be treated immediately. Failure to do so can lead to the loss of a toe.

  • Your shoes are meant to provide your feet with enough arch support. Flip-flops and flats do not give this provision. Hence, do not wear them often.

  • Moisturize your feet everyday with lotion or any other body moisturizer. Note, moisturizer is not to be applied to the skin in between the toes. The skin there has to be dry to prevent infection.

  • If you have calluses or corns, you need to wear thick socks before putting on your shoes.  These will help protect your foot.

  • Always trim your toenails straight across with nail clippers. The edges of the toenails should be smoothed with an emory board or a nail file. This prevents the nails from growing into the skin.
