5 Must Haves for a Classic Shoe Look

5 Must Haves for a Classic Shoe Look

What joy we feel and what happiness we experience at the purchase of a good shoe. Yeah! The smell of leather, the unwrapping of the foil and all other ceremonies that herald the arrival of a new shoe into our lives. Let’s not forget the twirling and the striking of various poses before our ever-dependable mirror. Our mirrors have seen the different shades of us and it will still in the ensuing years.

But, we do remember how we feel at the damage of a shoe we love. That bond- that oh so tiny bond- we feel when our lovely heels get broken, our brogues smile at us from beneath our feet and when fake soles melt before our eyes under the heat of the sun.

Most times, the fault might lie in the hands of the maker, but often times, you can agree with me that the fault comes from us. Yes, we are the reasons why our shoes don’t last. We handle them carelessly, we toss them around anyhow and we use them to discipline that stubborn child (lol).

But that’s ok now, because, I’m here to tell you some equipment every shoe owner should have to help promote the longevity of their shoes. Are you ready?

  1.       Shoe Polish

Shoe polish is a waxy paste, cream or liquid used to polish, shine and restore, maintain and improve the appearance of waterproof leather shoes and boots. There are various brands of shoe polishes that are available and these can be used to make the shoes last longer. Shoe polishes also come in sprays and they are used to shine suede shoes.

We all know how shoes look so faded when they aren’t shiny and most people we meet for the first time instinctively look at our feet. So, try to stand out and be remembered if not for anything, but for how glossy and shiny your shoes are.

  1.       Shoe Horn

This is a great shoe protector to have as it enables you to easily wear your shoe as well as remove them. A shoe horn is a curved blunt instrument that eases the user to wear the shoes properly. There are  various varieties available in the market and they are of different sizes too.

We have shoe horns made of synthetic material, plastic, metal or wood. We also have long shoe horns and short shoe horns. Whichever shoe horn you intend to use is your personal decision to make. Just ensure that you do not reduce the longevity of your shoes by removing them in an improper way. Use shoe horn ensures that your shoes last longer and little or no damage is done to them. The shoe horn is mostly used in men’s shoes that have shoe laces.

.

  1.       Shoe Rack

This is an important piece of furniture that helps keep shoes organized and easy to access. There are various designs and styles in which shoe racks have been fashioned. There exists wooden, metal and synthetically made shoe racks. These shoe racks too can be placed in strategic parts of the home all in the bid to add aesthetics to the home.

Shoe racks were designed to replace shoe boxes. Most times, people store shoes on racks which are easily accessible and place the shoe boxes high above on the closet for once in awhile access.

Shoe racks prevent the accumulation of dust on the shoes, reduce clutter of shoes as they occupy less space and enable one to store one’s shoes at a dedicated place, especially if they are worn on a daily.

  1.       Shoe Brushes

There are various types of brushes and they are all dependent on the type of shoes you want to use them on as well as the type of shoe polish you wish to use them with. This is very essential in the maintenance of shoes.

A toothbrush is a good option when you need to remove debris or buff product into tight places. when it comes to shoe shining, it’s time to get a white cloth out of the closet.
A soft cloth is important when it comes to more sensitive materials like leather. Its gentle touch will leave a lasting shine without damage.

  1. Shoe Tree

A shoe tree is a device that is used to preserve the shape of a shoe by maintaining the actual outline and preventing crease. This is an alternative to using old newspapers or pieces of clothing inside the shoes.

The Shoe Tree is usually made of unfinished wood. Shoe trees are made from beech, lime, alderwood and cedar. It helps to also control odour and absorb moisture. There are  various categories of shoe trees, they are spring, advanced, lasted and plastic shoe trees. The plastic shoe tree has the advantages of being cheaper, lighter and being better suited for travelling.

DIY METHOD ON HOW TO MEASURE YOUR FEET

Shoe-lovers, shoemakers and shoe buyers are faced with the simple but reoccurring problem of determining accurate shoe measurement and sizing for shoe. It also doesn’t help that shoe sizes vary per country or region.

Determining your shoe size is very important because your foot size can change over time, though, and even with the time of day. Wearing the wrong shoe size can cause blisters, abrasions, pain, long-term injury, and even back issues. So, don’t wear the wrong shoe size!

We have highlighted a few DIY steps in knowing your shoe size. Ready?

First off, before you begin this process, you are going to need some tools. They are;

  1. A ruler or tape rule
  2. A chair
  3. A pair of socks (optional)
  4. Pen, pencil or marker
  5. 2 pieces of plain paper that are larger than your feet.
  6. Tape

Let’s get down to business!

  • Tape the plain piece of paper to the floor, then sit down comfortably on the chair.
  • Place your foot firmly on the piece of paper. Ensure that your leg is bent slightly forward so that your shin is just in front of your ankle. If you are going to wear a socks when you purchase the shoe, put it on. If not make use of your bare feet.
  • Trace the outline of your foot on the paper. Make sure the pen or pencil or marker is held straight and not at an angle. If it is held at an angle, what you are drawing would be the outline of the sole of your foot and that’s not what you need.
  • Repeat the same procedure for the other foot. This outline is to be gotten on the other sheet of paper.
  • Mark the widest (width) and longest (length) parts of your feet. Use the largest of the shoe measurements gotten determine your shoe size.
  • Subtract, 3/16 of an inch from each of the length and width of your shoe. This stands for the small space between your foot and the line made by the pencil.

The final results are the actual sizes of your feet. You can make use of the shoe charts for more clarification.

How easy did you find these steps? Do let us know in the comment section below. So, the next time you want to get that #TFA shoe you love so much, let these steps guide you on the right path.

5 Tips to Gifting Your Loved One With The Perfect Shoe

Ever tasted real chocolate? If you have, I’m so certain you can remember the exact tinglings your taste buds had, as well as the sensations that were coursing through your veins. The same could be said for the feel of a new shoe on your feet.

How do you feel when you get a new shoe? What are the exact emotions your brain registers? Is it the smell of real leather or the feel of suede or the moment when you realize that the surprise gift is your exact size ?

We’ve received numerous request from spouses confused about how to gift their partner a  shoe gift this special love season and we’ve developed 5 tips to consider when getting your special someone a shoe gift this Valentine.

  1. Be Certain of your Partner’s Shoe SizeThe ultimate feeling anyone has when they are surprised with shoes is the realization that the shoe fits, you can ask Cinderella, she became a princess for this singular reason! So, if you want to get shoes for your spouse or partner, make an effort to know their shoe size.  Some people can tell shoe size just by looking at people’s feet. But there is a rule that posits that the distance from the fore arm to the wrist is the size of our shoes. This rule is called the pi rule. So, if you are not certain of their shoe size, you can either peek under the sole of their shoes, ask a friend or take their foot measurements while they sleep (winks). The Chart below will accurately help you make sense of their foot measurement.
  2. Have an Idea of your Partner’s Favourite Colours: Guessing this might be quite tricky. But a simple “Baby what are your favourite colours?” Can suffice. Remember that the idea of gifts is actually the thought behind them and not just the item or colour. If he/she sees that you made an effort to get him/her favourite colours of shoes, they’ll value it. So, if you are stuck about getting your partner’s favourite colours, try stalking their social media accounts! These have become official cheat sites when getting to know people better or on an in depth level. So, run along now and investigate!

  1. Know their Shoe Preference:

This can be quite tricky for women. For one, there are about a zillion shoe designs for women. Men shoes are much easier to pick out. The trick is finding out what’s missing in your partner’s shoe collection and buying a design you’re pretty sure they will be very happy and comfortable with.

  1. Buy  TFA : TFA shoes are exquisite hand made shoe. They are made from the high quality leather and italian soles.  To order the perfect shoe for your partner, visit  www.thefootwearacademy.com or WhatsApp/Call 07055458828, 08182336533.

5. Wrap up the gift & Deliver in style!

There are various beautiful gift wraps that can be gotten from gift shops. Some shops also offer gift wrapping services to customers. You can also include a handwritten note in beautiful and stylized handwriting. Remember, old school is the new cool !

A same day logistics company can help deliver your shoe gift or preferably, you can hand deliver the gift yourself just to see the priceless emotions coursing through your partner’s face. This feeling is actually one that would be with you for a very long time.
