Cheatsheet for Every Shoe Owner

The basic care of a shoe though quite simple can be quite daunting at first.

Today’s blog post offers you a checklist you can always remember to ensure your shoes last long and serve you long.

  • Air Dry Your Shoes, Always

You shoes need a sufficient amount of air to “breathe” properly, just as your skin would.

Depriving your shoes of air leads to molding. A gentle reminder, never store your shoes in plastic, it drains the air out of the shoes.

  • Overheating Kills!

In our previous posts, we had suggested using a hairdryer to stretch your shoes. To ensure the shoes maintain their desired shape, heating must be avoided.

Never expose your shoes to any direct source of head even to sun rays. Always dry your shoes in the shade or air dry as much as possible.

  • Dry Feet Please

Aside from the myriad of health issues that aria due to damp/moist feet, wearing your shoes with damp feet isn’t advisable.

Ensure to properly dry your feet before you wear your shoes. Wet shoes mild easily.

  • Remember to Wipe

As soon as mud or various types of liquids come in contact with your shoes (especially leather) endeavour to wipe them off almost immediately.

This prevents the shoe from getting stained.

  • Avoid the Washing Machine

The proper cleaning of shoes have to be done by hand. Even the gentlest of cycles can be very damaging to the shoes.

Do not be tempted to clean your sneakers or canvas or mesh shoes in the washing machine. The machine damages the glue that keeps them together and makes the sole look worn out.

  • Wear One Pair of Shoes Less Often

Constantly wearing a pair of shoes damages the structure irreversibly. No amount of cleaning can correct this level of damage. Try to rotate your shoe wardrobe more often to elongate the lifespan of your shoes.

5 Shoe Hacks to Prevent Foot Slip in Shoes

Imagine walking on the road and you are conversing with a friend and deep into the conversation, your feet pops out like a champagne cork  from your shoes. Embarrassing right?

If this has happened to you, take solace in the fact that many individuals especially women have experienced this footwear malfunction too.

This week, our blog post is centered on 5 tips to help reduce the slip rate of your feet out of shoes.

  • Line Your Shoes with Insoles, Cushion or Inserts.

Insoles ensures that your feet do not slide up or down while walking in them. If you do not feel comfortable using one insole, you can double up.

If after trying this hack and your feet still slip out, you can place inserts where the back of your heels touch the shoes. For sandals, place the inserts on the heel of the shoes as well.

  • Stuff Your Shoes

This hack is ideal for closed toe shoes. You fill the toe box with newspapers or fabrics that are not too harsh on the feet.

A properly stuffed shoe offers your feet no room to move forward or slip forward.

  • Attempt a Different Shoe Style

Rather than opt for heels that you may find so hard to walk in, you can go for pumps or other styles that offer you the height you crave as well as the comfort your feet desires.

  • Spray Hairspray on Your Feet

walmart.com

Need your feet to stick to your shoes like glue? Try hairspray! Hairspray makes your feet sticky and helps to prevent your feet from slipping out especially from sandals. Yikes! No one like that.

If you want to walk properly in narrow heels or your feet are narrow, a can of hairspray is a must have on your vanity.

  • Use a Double-sided Tape

DHgate.com

This also prevents your feet from slipping. This hack has the same effect as the hairspray hack. However, people with very sweaty feet may not consider this hack as sweat and heat produced from the feet makes the tape to become less sticky.

To be safe side, always carry a pair of extra tape in the event of the tape losing its elasticity.

If you have ever wondered how your supermodels walk the runway without wobbling, one of these hacks make that possible.

New shoes barely stretch to offer you the comfort that comes with wearing the right size of shoes.

Never buy shoes that hurt or feel too tight because they most likely will not stretch.

  • Flip Flops are Comfortable

The comfort flip flops offer can be likened to robbing Peter to pay Paul. Flip flops are recommended to be worn for very short periods of time because they lack cushioning and lack arch support for the foot.

Constant wear of flip flops causes the feet to be stressed as the feet is the foot is constantly flexing to grab onto things. This can cause; muscle cramps, torn ligaments, cracked heels, corns and calluses. All these are definitely not comfortable.

  • Socks Don’t Matter

Socks over matter!

If you find yourself developing blisters or hot spots on your feet, you need to get the right pair of socks to prevent these from further happening.

If your daily activity will cause you to sweat in your feet, do not opt for cotton socks as they retain sweat.

Wear synthetic socks of acrylic or other fabrics that absorb moisture from the feet.

  • Flats are better than Heels

Flat shoes lack good cushioning or arch support. This lack causes the foot to curl inwards, creating a strain on the leg muscles. This is bad for the foot.

Shoes with small 1-inch heels offer better support to the feet than flats. It is time to ditch those flats for some comfortable heels.

Hacks to Remedy Dry and Chapped Feet

The rainy season is here. The season for us to ditch our shoes and sneakers (except they are made of rubber or highly waterproof) and opt for sandals or slippers.

However, there are some people who can’t make this change due to the state of their dry and cracked heels.

epodiatry.com

Cracked heels is a condition that arises due to the occurrence of fissures in abnormally hard, dry skin over the heels of the feet. Dry and cracked heels is usually a source of worry but these blog post will provide you with useful hacks that will remedy this condition.

  • Avoid Prolonged Standing

videoblocks.com

Prolonged standing puts undue pressure on the heels of the feet. The feet suffer more when you stand for long in inappropriate or undersized shoes. If your job requires you to stand for long, try to alternate between standing and sitting.

  • Avoid Thin-Soled Shoes

Thin soled shoes do not provide enough padding to the heel fat pad. If you own shoes like this, it is advisable you either ditch them or spruce them up with more padded soles.

People who are overweight have a greater tendency to have dry or cracked heels as the increased body weight increases the pressure on the normal fat cushion under the heel of the foot.

Replace thin soles of shoes with well padded shoes.

  • Treat all Skin Dryness Completely

byrdie.com

Eczema is an itchy skin condition that increases the dryness of the skin and makes the heels vulnerable to cracks. To combat this, you can moisturize daily with oil based moisturizers as they help the body retain moisture while removing unwanted moisture such as urea.

  • Avoid All Inappropriate Footwear

Walking or working in the wrong kind of footwear is not ergonomic to the feet whether you suffer from cracked heels or not. Always opt for shoes that have very cushioned and proper back. This means that the constant wearing of sandals and its similarities increase the chances of cracked heels. Another layer of soles could be added to these sandals while comfortable insoles could be used for shoes.

  • Use Pumice Stone to Exfoliate

amazon.com

Exfoliation is the process of removing dead skin cells. This could be done with various things but we recommend pumice stones. The exfoliation could be done during pedicure or while having one’s bath. Be gentle on the heels of the feet and remember to moisturize the feet after exfoliation.
