Sawtooth Style

fieggen.com

This style is suitable for sporting or military use. In both scenario, if injuries occur, the upper laces can be easily cut through. Other benefits of this style are; it’s easier to tighten and the fit can be modified.

The way to achieve this is;

  • Begin straight across on the outside and in through the bottom eyelets.

    • The left end runs straight up on the inside, then straight across on the outside.

    • The right end runs diagonally up and left on the inside, then straight across on the outside. Repeat with alternate ends until one end reaches the top left eyelet.

    • The remaining end runs straight up on the inside and out through the top right eyelet.

Zipper Style

This style is well suited for climbing boots, skates, boots or any footwear that requires firm support. The benefits of this style are; it holds the shoe very firm as well as gives the shoe a decorative look. Here is how to achieve this style:

  • Begin straight across on the inside and out through the bottom eyelets.

    • The ends are looped under the laces where they feed under the sides of the shoe.

    • Cross the ends, feeding under the sides and out through the next higher set of eyelets.

    • Repeat the looping and crossing and feeding out through the next higher eyelets until lacing is completed.

Loop Back Style

fieggen.com

Do you have shoes with thick round laces? This shoelace style is excellent on them especially light colored laces on dark coloured shoes. The beauty of this style is the fact that the shoelaces loop back on themselves rather than simply cross over each other.

This style gives the shoe a decorative look. However, this shoelace style wears the shoelaces out and causes the center line to shift. How to achieve this style, read below;

  • Begin straight across on the inside and out through the bottom eyelets.

    • At each eyelet pair, the ends are given a half twist in the middle of the shoe before looping back and returning to the outside.

    • The ends are fed under the sides and out through the next higher set of eyelets.

    • Repeat until lacing is completed.

Ladder Style

baselondon.com

This style is suitable for high boots with many eyelets such as hiking boots. This style assures the wearer is stable while supporting the entire body weight. Here’s how to achieve this style;

  • Insert the shoelace into the first eyelets with the ends down
  • Pull both ends to make sure the shoelace ends are even
  • Run the ends straight up the sides and through the next (higher) set of eyelets
  • Run the ends straight across, but under the vertical lace sections on the opposite side
  • Continue running straight up and in through the next higher set of eyelets
  • Repeat the last two steps until you reach the last eyelets

Bush Walk Style

For even number of eyelet pairs on a shoe, this is the shoelace style to consider. It evens out the pressure on the feet and reduces sagging of shoes. If not done properly, the result could be a very messy look. These are the steps to achieve this look;

  • Begin straight across on the inside (grey section) and out through the bottom eyelets.

    • The left (blue) end runs straight up on the outside, then straight across on the inside.

    • Both ends run straight up on the outside, each skipping one eyelet and feeding in two eyelets higher up.

    • Both ends continue straight across on the inside and out through the adjacent eyelets.

    • Alternate running up on the outside and across on the inside until the ends emerge through the top and second-from-top eyelets on the same side.

Double Back Style

fashion.wonderhowto.com

This shoelace is really stylish and holds the whole firmly. However, while trying to tighten, it can be terribly awkward. The good news is, different variations of the shoelaces, offer beautiful yet different looks on your feet. Here’s how to achieve this shoelace style;

• Begin straight across on the outside and in through the second-from-top set of eyelets.

• Cross the ends and feed in through the second-lower set of eyelets (skip past one set of eyelets).

• Continue down the shoe two sets of eyelets at a time.

• At the bottom, run each lace end vertically between the bottom and second-from-bottom eyelets.

• Double back and work back up the shoe, criss-crossing through the vacant sets of eyelets.
