5 Shoe Cleaning Hacks

The bane of every shoe owner is not the shoes getting old and worn out, no!  It’s the shoes becoming dirty. Most times we may try the conventional water and dry rag but this method doesn’t work for most shoes.

Here are 5 shoe cleaning hacks to help solve your problems.

  1.     Toothpaste And Water

This hack is efficient for removing stains and grime from leather shoes and white soled sneakers easily. Coloured toothpaste may stain the soles rather than remove the stains. It is advisable to use plain white toothpaste. To carry out this hack, you are to

  • Use a new toothbrush and then squeeze whatever brand of plain white toothpaste you have on the toothbrush.
  • Apply water to the toothbrush, hence making it wet and then start scrubbing the dirty part of the shoe.
  • When you are certain it is sufficiently scrubbed, wipe off the shoe with a wet cloth.
  1.     Petroleum Jelly and q-tip

Vaseline is mild and gentle on leather. To remove scuff marks on patent leather shoes, apply Vaseline on the shoes using q-tip (cotton bud). Vaseline helps to soften scuff marks as well as remove them from your shoes without any damage.

3. White vinegar and Water

Water stains on boots can be an eyesore. So, to get rid of them, a solution of white vinegar and water would do the trick to ensure their instant removal.

4.Fingernail file and White Rubber Eraser

These can be used to remove stains and dirt from suede shoes. They help buff away the fibers that is holding the stains and dirty shoes on the suede shoes.

5. Hair Conditioner and Boots.

Hair conditioners do more than make the hair clean and shine. Leather boots can also shine and sparkle when shoe conditioners are used on them.

After cleaning your boots, they can be polished with small amounts of hair conditioners. The resulting effects would have the boots looking as new as possible. This is a killer right?

  • Use Medical Tape

Ever thought that medical tape could do much more than hold bandages and gauzes, they can also be used to prevent pain in the ball of your feet. So, before putting on your favourite pair of closed toe heels, use medical tape to hold toes two and three, this would ultimately reduce the strain on the nerves between them.

So, you had a busy day at work and it rained heavily too on your way back home. Or say you have been so engrossed with your fitness goals that you keep forgetting to sun dry your gym shoes and both your shoes and the gym bag begin to reek of smelly feet. Not to worry, this hack’s got you!

Putting dry tea bags in smelly shoes or gym bags will absorb all the unpleasant smell. Remember the key word; Dry Unused Tea Bags.

  • A Pair of Socks and Hair Dryer

improvisedlife.com

There is much more to a hair dryer than just removing moisture from a recently washed hair. Hair dryers can help expand or stretch very tight shoes too! Neat right? How does it work?

Simply wear a pair of thick socks and the shoes will stretch. The hair dryer is then used to stretch the part of the shoe that feels tight on the feet.

  • 2 Plastic Bags and A Freezer

Now, if you lack a hair dryer and you have a freezer, this shoe hack is definitely for you. All you need is just two plastic or ziplock bags and the tight pair of shoes that needs to be stretched. Fill the 2 plastic bags halfway with water and put them into the shoes in question and then store in a freezer.

As the water freezes, it will stretch the shoes ultimately stretching out the tight part of the shoes. Physics 101 to the rescue!

  •   Using Maxi Pads
